Education

Education is one of our primary focus areas. We want to inform the public about the value and importance of wild oysters and balanced aquaculture. We engage in education through schools, public events, and at our upwellers. Oysters lend themselves to hands-on learning about our coastal ecosystems and the role they play.

Schools

We work with schools to provide educational opportunities for students. This includes talks, field trips to explore the coastline, and visits to one of our upwellers. These programs gives students a unique experience to get outdoors and learn about our coastal ecosystems. We have limited capacity, but we encourage anyone interested in these opportunities to reach out to us at contact@massoyster.org.

Public engagement

It's important to educate the public about oysters and their vital role in healthy coastal ecosystems. Public education will result in better policies at the local, state, and national level. We engaged with the the public through social media, events, and outreach to state and local leaders.

Upwellers

Our upwellers are powerful tools for education. Besides being tools for oyster cultivation, they are a ideal platform for hands-on learning. During the 2018 and 2019 season, we gaves tours and talks to nearly 3,000 people at our Gloucester upweller.
