Shelly A. Wanamaker

Shelly A. Wanamaker, Ph.D. is a Research Scientist in the School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington, based in Gloucester, Massachusetts. As a Massachusetts native, she cares deeply about the health of the Commonwealth’s coastal ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. Her passion for marine sustainability began during a graduate internship with NOAA and has grown into a career focused on understanding how environmental change affects shellfish and other marine life.
Shelly uses genetics and genomics tools to study resilience, ocean acidification, and aquatic animal health, and she is committed to translating science into meaningful action. She contributes her scientific expertise, local roots, and dedication to outreach and education to the Mass Oyster Project’s efforts to restore oyster reefs and inspire stewardship of Massachusetts’ coastal waters
